The Cape tugged at my soul for the first time. I was in love
with that time, that place, despite late-afternoon clouds
foreshadowing another storm on its way. As the tide retreated,
beachcombers descended down rickety wooden stairs to sift through
treasures left behind. Bare feet sank deep into wet sand, and
I spotted it, its lush leaves fanning out from a delicate undulating
stem. Like a lost limb, it was haunting and incomplete. And
though its counterparts were strewn wide and plentifully throughout
the sand, this was the one I would rescue from obscurity.
